Archived File Definition/Meaning:

A file that has been transferred to a lower level in the memory hierarchy, usually from magnetic disk to magnetic tape. The decision for this transfer to take place may be made as a conscious decision by the owner of the file, or it may arise from the operations of the appropriate resource management.
