Finite-Length Arithmetic (fixed-length arithmetic) Definition/Meaning:

The approximation to real arithmetic in a computer. The term arises since the precision to which real numbers can be represented as floating-point numbers in a computer is limited by the length of the mantissa. See floating-point notation.
